I cant read and write Chinese. I went to SK School.
I started learning to speak Chinese when I was in high school, my friends taught me and I watch Chinese movies. therefore you may think I'm real banana or think I'm "Half banana. Strangers may think I can speak Chinese fluently but whenever someone/stranger /ppl IDK. suddenly talk to me.my first auto-response /default is speaking English because my brain need takes time to translate to Chinese. Or when I ask someone do you have a fork. Even I always ask. I still need time for my brain to process.
Sometimes my Chinese is fluent cause my brain process smoothly. Sometimes don't.
I hate watching Chinese movies without subtitles or strong accents. I get a headache and I need time for my brain to translate.
I love to listen to mandarin and Cantonese songs too but they are too traditional/complicated for me to understand and it always make me headache lol.
people who know me and I myself I won't consider my Chinese is good. Pronunciation is off and people always make fun of us, Chinese who can't speak Chinese.
1. English speakers never think speaking English is "Atas/classy. It's just our preferred / default language because we are used to speaking English since young.
It's just people who are not fluent think it that way. Maybe because they can't understand English so they discriminate Chinese English speakers.
2."you guys should learn Chinese "
Maybe u guys should learn English. Its international language too. Some may say, even Malay Indian or westerns are learning Chinese to deal business with Chinese.
Some maybe think " Chinese must know how to speak Chinese. I don't care about other races but Chinese must learn! "
Well for me I'm learning. But not everyone interested . Especially Chinese who lives in western countries(pure banana)
People who know me since high school knows how much my Chinese improved.
My mom cant read and write Chinese too. mom sent my 2 elder siblings to Chinese school then when they get home to ask my mom help on homework my mom can't help so she decided to send her 2 younger children (me and my bro) to Sk school (Kebangsaan /where children converse in Malay -English )
Since young I get discriminated because
1) I can't speak and write Chinese.
2) I cant write my own Chinese name. No matter how many times ppl taught me. Chinese words are very difficult.
3) unlike most Chinese,I do not have Chinese name. My name is just simple. My name and surname. So many ppl always think it's weird to not have Chinese name. but I like my name short and simple
4) *yao mou gao chor, Chinese don't how to hold chopstick*
I can't hold chopstick. I just prefer to use fork. I only use wood chopstick in sushi /Japanese restaurants or bbq plaza cause it's easy. Plastic and metal chopsticks are harder to grip and food is always falling. It's so frustrating.
I think the society needs to get rid of language discrimination lol. Whether Chinese or English. Is just a language. Why want to start a war or think complicate.
Maybe it's partially true where a small part of people/fake banana, who can speak Chinese fluently pretend can't speak English. But that doesn't represent all of us.
I think its truly unfair for people who think Chinese -English speaker are "atas/ act classy. Because I never think of that and I'm offended with that stereotype assumption.
Even Chinese -Chinese also discriminate against each other. How to maju la.
This happens to other races too.
Whenever Malay speaks English kena juga. same goes to others.
